Thanks to nomination from South GDA, John O’Keefe, Kilsheelan/Kilcash took part in Munster football activity day in Croke Park on the 31/03/16.
We started the day with light picnic lunch in Pheonix Park and proceeded to Croke Park ready for action at 2.30.
First team up was Kilmurray/Ibricken [Clare] and Kilsheelan/Kilcash team was as follows:
Ru Kelly [capt]
Michael [Bonner] Bates
Mike Mc Guire
Mathew Roche Nagle
We started slow but as the game went on we grew into the game finding our rhythm and coming from behind to level the game in the finish.
Solid defence of Jack, Oisin, Conor and Ali were well supported up front by the Bonner, Conor, Mike and Sofie with Ru and Mathew sorting out the midfield.
Highlights were throughout the game with notable pints from Micael and then Sofie bagging a total of 1-2 over the day.
Next up were Dromcollegher/Broadford [Limerick] and team was:
Oisin O’Donoghue; Senan Butler; Alex Hanrahan; Jack Norris; Kevie Kelly; Rubin Darcy; Leah Murphy;
Lauren Boland O’Reilly [capt]; Paddy Ormonde; Harry Roche Nagle
Goals were the order of the day in this game Senan, Alex, Paddy all rattleing the net. Then up stepped Jack Norris for 2 and unlucky for the hat trick. Goal of the day came from Kevie out of nowhere to finish a fantastic move worked up from defence through the very impressive midfield platform provided by Leah and Lauren in midfield. Incidentally Kevie informed us afterwards that his goal was only part of a long list of goals scored by Kelly’s in Croke Park, including Mrs Kelly, but I would think that few could have met the quality and standard as achieved by Kevie’s spectacular effort.
The defence were not to be out done in this game with epic heroics from Oisin between the posts and ably protected by Harry, Rubin with a special injury cameo by Micael.
That saw us face into our final challenge against Kilcummin [Kerry] and in this game the team fielded as follows:
Oisin/Jack sharing the goal keeping duties
Liam Freaney; Zach O’Loughlin; Tommy O’Connor; Eoin Barry; Arron Costin [capt]; Nora Martin; Tadhg Mc Guire; Arron Lyons; Billy O’Gorman
This game saw us face our stiffest test yet. Kilcummin moved the ball in typical Kerry fashion with pace and support being the pattern. However we were not to be out done in this game either. Kilcummin raced into a 2-4 lead but with goals from Liam, Sofie [see above, the ball on way to top corner] and a brace of goals from Tommy, Kilsheelan/Kilcash ran out winners in the finish.
Of course with the likes of Zach, Eoin, Nora through midfield and defence and with clever movement and distribution from Billy and Aaron up front, Kilcummin never stood a chance.
There were too many scores to keep track of on the day and apologies if some have been left out in the above account. The day was finished off by a tour of the GAA museum and a well earned feed on the way home.
On behalf of the coaches Dan, David and Derek I would like to thank all that took part on the day and the support shown by the parents.
I’ll leave you with some pictures from the day!!!
